AntibioticsWhy Not Antibiotic ?Antibiotics are very useful for certain types of infections caused by bacteria germs. They may even be life saving for serious bacterial infections. However, most common infections are caused by virus germs. Virus InfectionsMany of the common infections of the nose, throat, ears and chest are due to viruses. Flu and flu-like illnesses are also caused by viruses. Diarrhoea and/or vomiting is often due to a virus infection in the gut. The immune (defence) system is good at fighting off any types of virus infection in children and adults who are normally well. An antibiotic is not needed if a virus is causing an infection.
